QUESTIONS AND ADVICE ON MAKING THE BEST FISH TACOS

Are these tacos hot or mild?

The red pepper powder adds a little zing to the dish. Make changes to suit your needs. If you want the fish to be mild, useless; if you want them to be spicy, use more.

Is it possible to utilize frozen fish?

Fresh fish produces the best results because the seasoning adheres well to it. If you use frozen fish, the baking time will need to be increased to 15-20 minutes, depending on the thickness of the fish. After 15 minutes, check to see if it’s done.

Is it possible to grill the fish instead?

Absolutely. Simply grill for 3 minutes on each side.

Is it possible to prepare this in an air fryer?

Yes, put the marinated fish fillets in the air fryer and cook for 15-18 minutes at 375 degrees F, depending on the size of the fish.

Do these contain gluten?

If you’re using corn tortillas, yes.

Ingredients

Fish

  • 2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 2 tablespoon cumin powder
  • 2 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • ½ teaspoon powdered red pepper
  • ½ teaspoon powdered garlic
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper ground
  • 1 pound Whitefish (such as cod, snapper, tilapia)

Lime crema:

  • ¼ cup sour cream
  • 3 tablespoon mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice freshly squeezed
  • ½ lime lime's zest
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt

Slaw:

  • 2 cup shredded cabbage
  • ¼ cup chopped cilantro
  • ½ onion sliced green onions
  • 1 garlic clove minced

Tacos:

  • 8 soft taco tortillas 6 inches
  • 1 sliced avocado optional

Instructions

  • Preparation of the fish: Preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Combine the vegetable oil, lime juice, cumin, paprika, coriander, red pepper powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a small mixing dish. Dip the fish into the marinade and swirl it around until it is evenly coated. Place the fish on a prepared baking pan and marinate for 15 minutes in the refrigerator. Bake for 9-10 minutes, or until a fork test reveals flaky fish. Transfer the fish to a plate and use a fork to split it up into smaller pieces.
  • To make the lime crema, whisk together all of the crema ingredients in a small bowl (sour cream, mayonnaise, lime juice, lime zest, and salt). Place aside.
  • Prepare the slaw by combining all of the slaw ingredients in a large mixing bowl (cabbage, cilantro, green onion, and garlic). Place aside.
  • Heat the soft tortillas according to package directions or for 30 seconds per side in an ungreased skillet over medium heat. To get char markings on the edges, heat it directly on a gas burner for a few seconds.
  • Assemble the tacos: evenly distribute the fish among the tacos, then top with 1/4 cup slaw and sliced avocados (optional). 1 tablespoon crema poured on top

Notes

  • The red pepper powder provides a little kick to the dish. Make changes to suit your needs. If you want the fish to be mild, use less, and if you want them to be hot, use more.
  • Fresh vs. frozen fish: Fresh fish produces the greatest results because the seasoning adheres well. If you use frozen fish, the baking time will need to be increased to 15-20 minutes, depending on the thickness of the fish. After 15 minutes, check to see if it's done.
  • Instead, pan-fry the fish as follows: Heat a large skillet over medium heat, lightly oiled. Cook the marinated fish for 3-4 minutes per side, or until thoroughly cooked.
Instead, broil the fish for about 3 minutes on each side.
