Homemade Hamburger Helper this flavor-packed, delicious dish is the dinner of your dreams! For a fulfilling rendition of this classic meal dish, pasta and ground beef are sautéed and topped in a creamy tomato & cheese sauce.

One of our kids’ favorite evening dinners is this homemade hamburger helper. It doesn’t hurt that this recipe is both inexpensive and simple to prepare.

Why Make Homemade Hamburger Helper At Home?

On hectic weeknights, boxed Hamburger Helper is convenient, but this homemade version is just as easy to make and has more flavor and freshness. You’ll have more control over the seasonings and be able to avoid all of the added preservatives if you make it from home.

Oh! Real cream and real cheese are used in the from-scratch method. You know that alone is worth it! You can always add a little Velveeta to the shredded cheddar cheese if you truly want the classic hamburger helper flavor with the artificial cheese! I assure you that your information is safe with me.

You might as well go all-in with the real deal if you want to prepare a cozy and tasty dinner.

  • Ground Beef: To spice things up, you can use another ground meat like chicken or turkey instead of lean ground beef.
  • Chopped Onion: To balance out the savory elements in this recipe, I add a sweet yellow onion.
  • Garlic, minced
  • You can substitute another broth for the All-Purpose Flour Beef Broth.
  • Sauce de tomates
  • Seasonings from Italy
  • Salt with seasonings
  • Smoked paprika
  • Powdered garlic
  • Pasta Shells: This recipe can also be made with elbow pasta.
  • heaviness of cream
  • Cheddar Cheese, Shredded
  • Salt and pepper to taste: Season to taste with salt and pepper at the end.

WHAT KIND OF PASTA TO USE THE RECIPE

This recipe works well with shells or elbow pasta. If neither of these is available, any tiny noodles will suffice. If you wanted to, you could create this hamburger helper with penne. I prefer using the shells because they absorb the creamy tomato sauce well.

HOW TO MAKE HOMEMADE HAMBURGER HELPER

Cook the ground beef in a large sauté skillet with a cover over medium-high heat. Remove the cooked ground beef from the pan and set it aside, saving 2 tablespoons of the fat.
Sauté Onion & Garlic: Cook the onion for about 5 minutes, or until tender. For the last 30 seconds, add the garlic.
Add the flour and broth and whisk to simmer for about 1 minute. Bring the mixture to a boil while slowly stirring in the beef broth.

Cook the pasta: Combine the tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, and pasta in a mixing bowl. Cover and simmer, stirring periodically, for 15 minutes or until the pasta is done.

Cream and cheese: Stir in the cream and cheese until the cheese is completely melted. Return the ground meat to the pan and simmer for another 5 minutes. Serve immediately after seasoning with salt and pepper to taste

WHAT SHOULD I SERVE IT WITH?

This delicious homemade hamburger helper can be made in just one pot! You don’t need to offer anything on the side if you don’t want to; it’s already filling!
As a result, we frequently offer this dish with a side salad or steamed or roasted broccoli!

HOW SHOULD LEFTOVERS BE STORED AND REHEATED?

Refrigerate leftover beef pasta in an airtight container for up to 3 days. If you wish to freeze it, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and place it in an aluminum pan. It will keep for around 3 months in the freezer!
Your hamburger helper can be reheated on the stove or in the microwave. To restore the creaminess, add a dash or two of broth. If you have leftovers that were frozen, defrost them in the refrigerator before reheating.

Is it possible to prepare this meal ahead of time?

Making this homemade hamburger helper recipe ahead of time is not recommended. This dish is best served hot, straight from the oven. The pasta will soak up the extra liquid as it rests and cools, so it won’t be as delicious as it is when it’s fresh. The leftovers are still tasty, but not quite as nice as they were when they were first cooked.
