  1. 4 salmon fillets (6 oz each)
  2. kosher salt (1/2 teaspoon)
  3. a half teaspoon of black pepper
  4. smoked paprika, 1/2 teaspoon (or regular paprika)
  5. a quarter teaspoon of blackening seasoning (optional)

  2. 2 tsp extra virgin olive oil
  3. 6 garlic cloves, minced
  4. half a cup of honey
  5. 3 tablespoons of water
  6. 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  7. 1 tablespoon sriracha
  8. lemon juice, 2 tbsp

  • 4 salmon fillets (6 oz each)
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon of black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika (or regular paprika)
  • ¼ teaspoon of blackening seasoning optional


  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 6 garlic cloves minced
  • ½ cup of honey
  • 3 tablespoons of water
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice


  • Season the salmon with salt, pepper, paprika, and blackening seasoning after patting it dry (if using). Remove from the equation. Preheat the broiler after adjusting the oven rack to the middle position.
  • In a large oven-safe skillet, melt butter and oil over MED-HIGH heat. Once the butter has melted, add the garlic, water, soy sauce, sriracha, honey, and lemon juice, and cook for about 30 seconds, or until the sauce has heated through.
  • Cook for 3 minutes with the skin side down (if using skinned salmon). While the salmon is cooking, baste it with sauce from the pan by spooning it over the top.
  • Broil the salmon for 5-6 minutes, basting once in the sauce during the grilling process, or until the desired doneness is reached.
  • If desired, garnish with minced parsley.



  • Purchase decent fish - I prefer fresh salmon from the grocery store over frozen filets in bags, which are sometimes very thin. A wonderful article on how to choose the best fish at the grocery store can be found in Cooking Light.
  • Use it soon — Because salmon can go "off" or rotten rapidly, I prefer to buy it no more than one day in advance.
  • To skin or not to the skin — if pan-frying your salmon, keep the skin on (and sear the skin side first). The skin protects the fragile meat from the hot pan, and it's far easier to slide a spatula beneath crispy skin than tender flesh. Plus, you’ll get crispy skin!
  • Don't overcook salmon - It's easy to overcook salmon because the line between not done enough and dry and overdone is thin. Salmon should be cooked to an internal temperature of 145 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the USDA. Different people, however, prefer their salmon rarer or more well-done, similar to a steak. To be on the safe side, I follow the USDA's guidelines.
  • This recipe is best when made shortly before serving, although the sauce can be whisked up ahead of time if desired.
  • This salmon recipe, however, is equally delicious and served cold on top of a salad. So, if that's your objective, plan ahead of time by a few hours to a day.
