What kind of side dish looks good and unique but is extremely simple to prepare? Yes, the Spicy-stir fried pork is exactly what I was thinking about.
Jeyuk bokkeum (제육볶음), also known as dweji bulgogi (돼지불고기), is a spicy marinated pork. It’s a popular Korean barbecue dish. Jeyuk is Korean for pork, and bokkeum is Korean for stir-fry.
The spicy and sweet flavors of the gochujang really set this pork dish apart from the crowd, as it provides a barbeque-like flavor without the use of a barbecue!

What You’ll Need to Make Jeyuk Bokkeum

Gochujang, gochugaru, soy sauce, rice wine, brown sugar, honey, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger are some of the ingredients.

How to serve Jeyuk Bokkeum

This recipe can be enjoyed simply with a bowl of rice and additional side dishes. But it’s even better wrapped in some leafy vegetables like red or green leaf lettuce and/or perilla leaves (kkaennip,깻잎 ) and ssamjang (쌈장). If available, crown daisy (ssukgat,쑥갓 ) is an excellent vegetable to include in your wraps.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 pounds sliced pork shoulder or butt
  • ½ medium chopped onion
  • 3 scallions chopped into 2-inch chunks

Marinade:

  • 6 tbsp gochujang
  • 1 or 2 tbsp gochugaru
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp rice wine or mirin
  • 2 tbsp sugar or brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp honey or more sugar
  • 2 tbsp sesame seed oil
  • 2 tbsp garlic mince
  • 1 tbsp grated ginger

Instructions
 

  • If the meat has not been pre-sliced, thinly slice it.
  • In a large mixing basin, combine all marinade ingredients. Toss everything together to evenly coat the pork with the marinade. Toss in the onion and scallions again. Allow it to sit for 30 minutes.
  • Grill or pan-fry until slightly caramelized in a skillet (in two batches) over medium-high heat. Adjust the heat as needed.
  • Enjoy!
